At least 15 police personnel were injured, three of them seriously, after a mine protected vehicle of the C-60 commandos on Wednesday came under a landmine attack allegedly by Maoists in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. The serial attacks on police in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh have raised questions over operation by police against Naxals.
It may be mentioned that twenty-five CRPF personnel were killed and six wounded in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on April 24, the deadliest attack by naxalites targeting security forces this year.
On Wednesday morning, there were reports of 12 CRPF men being injured, it was later discovered that one of the jawan succumbed to his injuries. This is the second attack in a day as earlier three security officials were injured in an encounter with the Naxals in the same area.
According to official, the incident took place in the evening near Bhamragad in the district when a patrol party of the C-60 commandos, was crossing the area. Initially it was reported that at least 12 personnel were injured in the landmine blast which targeted the armoured vehicle, but later the figure was estimated to be 15. A police oficer said that they are getting some preliminary reports that the troops, caught in the blast, belong to the C-60 force of the Maharashtra Police that conducts anti-Naxal operations.
